Clairways is a Boston startup developing an AI-driven wearable “smart lung” monitor for asthma and COPD. The device uses an ultra-low-power sensor to collect respiratory data continuously. We conducted a firmware code review for Clairways’ embedded system, analyzing their microcontroller code for the lung-monitoring pendant. Our review identified optimizations and fixes to ensure the firmware’s stability, power efficiency, and compliance with medical-device standards. This helped Clairways improve reliability and performance of their monitoring device before production.

This migration gave them updated, maintainable tools for tasks like video editing support and encoding, ensuring their systems meet today’s industry standards and run reliably in their production pipelines.

Redmond 3D is a company specializing in 3D video processing. For them we developed custom stereoscopic 3D algorithms and a video editing plugin. In practice, our work involved creating software to convert or display 2D video content in stereoscopic (3D) format, and integrating this into a plugin for their editing tools. This enabled Redmond 3D to offer automated 2D→3D conversion and stereoscopic processing as part of their product suite, solving their need to streamline 3D content production. Nuand LLC designs open-source software-defined radio (SDR) hardware like the bladeRF (47 MHz–6 GHz, USB 3.0 SDR). They needed cross-platform real-time monitoring software for their devices. We developed a cross-platform monitoring application that runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, streaming live RF data from the bladeRF units. This software provides GUI charts and logs in real time, allowing engineers to visualize radio signals and device status consistently across all OS platforms, thereby simplifying Nuand’s support and development workflow.

Expanding Compiler Support for Krita From MinGW to MSVC

Krita is a popular free/open-source digital painting program. The project was to expand compiler support from MinGW (GCC) to Microsoft’s MSVC toolchain. We updated Krita’s build system and source code to be compatible with MSVC, resolving Windows-specific issues and dependencies. This work enabled Krita to be natively built with Visual Studio, improving performance and allowing the Krita team to release an official MSVC-based Windows version. Our contributions broadened Krita’s developer base and made builds more stable across environments.
